"Never believe anything you hear on TV." "Never believe anything you read." "Never believe anything your told." What are we supposed to believe? A question that could plague daily life if left unchecked. It's always odd to see that people go out and buy cleaners tested against the "leading" brand. What brand is that? And if the new leading brand just got beat by the next add, does that mean it cleans any better? Or does it just clean one thing better then other things? The other day I myself almost fell victim to this... pseudo science. After HOURS of looking for a cleaner, I actually found one fully tested against another brand. It was tested against 409. It did much better on light surfaces then 409 due to a bleach content, but not to well against colored surfaces because it would fade the color. Wait, can this be right? A cleaner that was truthful? Well it does in fact exist. It's a restaurant brand cleaner called, go figure, blue cleaner. But then it made me wonder. I had been searching for a cleaner for hours and only found one that provided a believable argument. So then what about those ads? "Take this pill and lose weight!*" 'Male enhancement, CHEAP!*' "Get fuller, more natural breasts in just days!*". Okay, so I got a lot of them from my email inbox. But still they try to provide "proof" that it will work. The foot note of *:claims not tested by the FDA has always scared me away from buying online products. Of course, a fuller more natural body may just be what I'm hoping for, being a six foot tall male of all things. Oh, and foundation, that looks more natural then natural*? Count me in! I really want to glow! *:claims not tested. probably never will be. *:tested against leading brand. Wait what? What's leading brand? two footnotes and how they SHOULD look, but don't. Then there's always my favorite ads, that look like they have curse words for disclaimers.
“Tested against the leading health care professionals!*@#$%^&”*:may cause cancer

So in reading your blog especially the last bit about side effects etc reminded me of this particular clip....

Who doesn't want to be more natural than natural?! It's like that saying goes- "If it sounds to good to be true, it probably is".
I love that you are quoting ads like this, great post. But you missed my favorite ad out there right now......SHAMWOW!!!! "Its made in Germany, and you know they make good things" seriously, is that a selling point? I drive an Audi, I know how bad it is, and its German. I love these ads for nothing more than a laugh, Great post!!!
I really enjoyed reading your post. I liked how you put various quotes from different commercials or ads that claim that there product works. It is so funny seeing these ads claims! Especially for something like a diet pill that will shrink away the pounds, yet in the tiny print, it reads “results not typical”! Good Post!
Infomertials take up most of the commercials ive seen lately. It's annoying when you have to have some guy yelling at you like that one guy who dyes his beard and hair black and sells that Amazin' Puddy stuff, his name is Billy. I want to ring his neck. And then they play the commercials back to back so you cant ignore them. I hate the SHAMWOW guy i want to ring his neck, too. On top of that, when the show your watching switches to commercials, the volume magically turns up. That kind of stuff should be illegal.
Fantastic post!
